Lights

Workshop Update:

I have now added another workshop to this years list:

on the 7th November 2015

If you're interested in booking a place on this workshop or any others please visit:
or call the Indigo Moon Shop on 01686 669644

Things are still rather manic here getting the workshop space ready,
but we now have lights!  Yaaaay

Firstly in the corridor

I decided to go for these fabulous industrial lights that Gav got for the shop!  I fell in love with them and thought they'd look perfect (ignore the bulbs, i have some edison filament bulbs to go in once i remember where i've put them!!!)

The box on this one opens up

The Stair carpet up to the living space has also been fitted (and very difficult it was to get around the curve at the top! - never buy a carpet with stripes if there is a curve to get around...live and learn i guess).

We found these beautiful copper stair grips in the store room....i just love rummaging around in there, you never know what you might find

As you can see i'm still carefully removing the white paint off the rails so the vintage paints come through, they'll be waxed when it's done, it's very tedious work but worth it.

Workshop room lights have also been fitted.  This was the hardest decision to make as i wanted something that looked aesthetically nice with the house.  In the end i had to choose the fluorescent lighting strips, although they've come a long way in design since i was in school.  Not as good looking as other lighting i looked at and wanted but very practical for the job.

It's difficult to see in daylight, but there are four in the room and when they're switched on you get instant daylight.  Perfect for working in.  So all in all i'm very pleased.

I have tons of these twinkly lights to put out, not decided exactly where yet though, but working on it.

...my bargain shopping from Leominster last Monday got me two extra school posters to go with the others in the work room, a little damaged but for just £4.50 for the two i had to have them...they really are beautiful

...and last but not least, i decided which cake stands to use.  I think these are perfect and am looking forward to finding cakes that fit.

Thats it for now but work is continuing quite quickly now and updates will be posted soon

XOXO

Covering the walls

It's almost getting to the nicer part of preparing the workshop rooms....

...covering the walls with beautiful things.

I found some very decorative glass cupboards at TK Maxx recently.  I thought they were ideal to show off pieces of artwork in the workshop area as each piece is safe behind glass and can easily be removed when a change is required.

Another project was the stairs.  There are two flights of stairs here, one leading from the front door to the rooms (see below) and the other, clearly visible from the workshop, but leading to my home/living space.  I wanted something that was not too homey, but not too businesslike either.

I got around the problem of those horrible brackets (holding the stairs together) by getting a runner and painting either side white.  (This is not properly fitted yet, i just rolled it out for show).  I have gorgeous copper stair grippers that will be fitted either side of the runner on each stair.

I also thought i'd remove the white gloss paint off the stair spindles (these spindles are listed and CADW protected!!)  I love the green flaked paint underneath, it's a bit tedious carefully removing it all, but will look great when/if finished.

The supplies room finally cleared...(ish)

..and on to the other stairs

I found this gorgeous wallpaper at B&Q - like planks of covered wood

This is what the stairs currently look like, but the paper i'd used, whilst pretty, wasn't durable and was very thin and therefore difficult to piece together

This is what it will look like,
nicer when the stairs are re-painted too (please excuse the dirt there, it's had lots of moving of furniture up and down)

There are still places available for the three workshops in September and October for Christine Kelly, Daisy Moon and Gretel Parker.  I will also be adding an extra one for November with Viv Sliwka of Hensteeth,

Schoolroom theme...

This has been a rather nice part of getting the workshop rooms ready, especially being able to raid the shop and shop store room for supplies...

I managed to get some chairs that were hanging around in the store room, i think these will be ok for sitting on and working with some padded cushions.

To frame or not to frame....
...i love these vintage school posters and had planned to frame them, but i thought that they wouldn't have been framed in the classroom, so put them on the wall as they were.
I think they look good.

This old shelving was somewhere else around the house with books on and decided it would look better in this room with my collection of vintage childrens books on it.

of course...Semolina...a must for anything to do with school

old map and an old clock (the clock needs the glass replaced but it works fine

 Old school sign

 Tea/coffee/cake room

took the drum coffee table from the shop, it's just the right size for in here

We put the enamel 'Reckitts' sign up yesterday (much harder than it looked), it looks great and there are a few others to put up too

...and also i took these old chapel chairs from the store room for use in this room, so there's plenty of seating

There are still places available on the workshops this year, see www.indigomoon.co.uk/workshops for details and bookings

In the meantime...back to painting
